OPT (f1) - forms to give employer?
I'm working on my OPT right now on the F1 visa - do I need to give my employer a W-8BEN along with a W4? I know I filed both to my university when I was employed there on campus.

Also, if my W2 comes back with soc security and medicare, is there a separate form where I claim that they don't apply to me?

    Thank you!

    LAtoDC:

Download IRS Pub 519 from www.irs.gov. In the back of the pub under the appendices, there are sample statements you submit to your employer to claim treaty exemptions.

Go discuss this issue with your company's Human Resource department. I am sure you are not the first F-1 visa employee they have had. They will know what needs to be done.

Employer paid too much [ 1 Answers ]

I have a question about vested interests. My former employer paid me 100% of the vested interest in my 401K instead of 40%. I was unaware of this at the time and I am still not sure it is in fact true as the dollar amount they say they paid me does not match my records. I just received a letter...
