    Why a dog stops eating.
My 12 year old dog has not eaten for almost two days. She has a few medical problems and won't take her medicine either. She has eaten little pieces of food but if there is a pill in them, she will chew it and spit it out. She is also very weak because of her conditions and lack of food. Does this mean her time is almost up? Or is something else wrong?

Here are a few methods I have used to get meds down my dogs. Maybe the weiner method may help... it may take more than one piece to get it all down her. Good luck

    1. Take a weiner, use about an inch of it, from the cut part, insert a straw and pull out, you will pull out some of the meat. Open the capsule and pour the powder in the hol;e and then squirt out the weiner from the straw back into the hole to cover up the med. You may have to use a few pieces but it works for my dog.
    2. Take some yogurt or icecream, and mix the med in it a stir it up. I do this for liquid(bendryl) type. You could also use peanut butter. Better to use the low fat versions, if possible.

Thanks but she won't eat hot dogs or... anything really. The only thing she will eat are vegetarian morning star sausages and she won't eat it with any medicine. We even ground up medicine and put it in ice cream, yogurt, whipped cream, peanut butter... I'm running out of options!

If she spits it out, I'm assuming it's a pill. Have you tried crushing it up and putting it in her water? (just a little bit of water)

Have you tried a soft cheese maybe? Maybe crushing the pill and putting it in a tiny piece of sliced cheese?

I don't know if that will help you. Just trying to remember some of the things that were successful for me when I tried to give my pups pills that they hated taking.

I know this might sound a bit cruel, but you can grab her upper jaw and hold it open (if you hold onto the top she should be able to close it), and putting your fingers as close to the back of her throat as you can, to drop it down, and then holding her mouth shut until she swallows. I didn't like doing this, but it did work sometimes, and when you are at your wits end and worried, sometimes you'll try and do anything to help them.

Sure do wish you luck! :)

Depending on how large she is, 12 may mean the end or not. I would get her to the vet. It may be something curable and she may have many more good years if she isn't too big.

Well she passed away this morning. I guess it was her time to go, and I'm glad she isn't in anymore pain.
