    There can be a number of reasons, does it take a bit before the flames come on, ( could gas be coming out before for a short bit)

    Is the flames burning cleam

    Is all of the ports burning properly

    So in general without someone checking it out, it is not possible to tell you why your stove itself is doing this without a lot more information

    Could be left over remains of oven cleaner, or burnt food, left in crevices of the electric oven, or on the elements.

    I think Fr_Chuck misread your situation, not many flames with electric stoves. Leftover remanins and even dust in the air can cause an odor, it isn't gas.
