How do I report an international fellowship on form 1040?
    Hi everybody,

I am a permanent resident and receive a research fellowship from a European foundation for research in the US. Do I report this fellowship on line 7 and write “SCH” on the dotted line next to it or do I have to report it on line 21 (other income) and also submit form 2555 (foreign earned income)?
Also do I have to pay social security on a non-US fellowship?
Thanks so much for your help,
    Michael

You can report it on line 7 of 1040 even if you don't have W2.

I am not sure that you qualify to file Form 2555 if you live in the U.S. For 2555, you must meet Bonafide Residence Test or Physical Presence Test.
You may need to file Form 1116 and claim credit for taxes paid in the foreign country.

    Thanks for your reply!
I do not qualify for foreign income exclusion - so no 2555.
I was just confused where to report the income, since I don't have a W2 and the fellowship is from a non US source and paid in Euro...

You report the foreign income on line 7 and don't need to write any thing.
