    Tax calculation- Form 1040nrez
    Hi
I would greatly appreciate ay help I could get in this regard.
I have a few questions regarding form 1040nrez. I am a resident of India and I used to work in US as a postdoc researcher with a J1 (exchange visitor) visa during the year 2007. Currently I am in India. I have only the W2 form and not the 1099. According to my W2 the federal income tax withheld comes to around $500 and the taxable income comes to around $1000 (after the personal exemption deduction of $3400). I was told that I cannot claim the standard deduction. Since I was present in US for only a year would I be required to pay any taxes (according to the 2007 tax table) for this $1000 or would I be able to get a refund of $500.
    Thanks

If you were for Research job, then your income is exempt from federal income tax for two years. File nonresident tax return and Form 8843 to get refund of federal taxes withheld. You may also have to file state tax return.
