My mom with alzheimers can no longer pay her cc debts.what will happen?
My mom was recently diagnosed with alzheimers and receives social security and a death benefit from my deceased dad who worked for the government. She has very little equity in her home(which we have on the market so that we can put her into assisted living) The equity is only about $8000 at the most once we pay the realtor, mortgage etc. She owes quite a bit of credit card debt. I have been in contact with an attorney who works for seniors and the disabled and they state that they can help keep the creditors away because her income is judgement proof and her home is exempt. They will represent her for $200 upfront and $20 per month. It is not a bankruptcy but is similar. She has always wanted to pay her bills but now my husband and I are paying a sitter to stay with her while we work and we cannot afford to do this. To me her care is the most important. Has anyone dealt with this type of situation and what should we do? Thank you! ::confused:

Creditors are not suppose to be able to take her Social security but they may still try and take it out of her checking account anyway so one thing you want to do is notify her bank that she is on social security
