Hello,

We live in an old building from 1900 together with other 3 owners. The main sewer pipe of the building is main of lead and one apartment has connected his own sewer pipe to the main lead pipe. This connection is now leaking, we would like to know which one is the best way to make such a connection. I know the best solution is to replace the lead pipe by a PVC one, but this is today not an option.

The best way to connect pvc to lead pipe will be by using shielded couplings or 4 banded clamps... see pictures. These are available at all plumbing supply houses.

I would use the 4 band clamp if lead and pvc same aize.

Most likely will not be same size, so then will need the shielded clamps. The shielded clamps can be purchased slightly smaller on one side of clamp... perfect for this application. Then just be careful not to overtighten.

That should answer your question... now how did they connect into pipes..?

Thanks a lot. Actually, the PVC and lead pipe are indeed not the same size, the PVC pipe should connect transversally to the main lead pipe. Is it clear?
