I have a 7 week puppy I am starting to house train. Do I need to take him out of his crate in the middle of the night to go to the potty? I have read different books one said to take himn out the other said not to. I did not take him out the first two nights and he did poof in his crate.

Don't take him out in the middle of the night when he gets older he's going to want to go out in the middle of the night every night you'll be up every night at 12pm taking your dog to the loo for the rest of his life!! Take your puppy out in the morning when you wake up then feed your puppy then take it out again after it's feed take your puppy out after it sleeps after it plays and after it eats or drinks don't feed your puppy after 5pm and take it out just before you go to bed this way there won't be much in there left he'll have a few accident but will learn well I have 6 dogs I had to house break a litter awhile ago to I no how never ending it can be!

I think you should just take him out before you go to bed. As the puppy gets older his bladder will become stronger so you won't wake up with puddles of pee and poo but pee and poo inside is something you should expect when having a puppy. You can easily potty train him and he will soon learn how to control his bladder.:):)
