    How do I root a forsynthia and a dog wood?
    I took several cuttings from my parents trees- now what do I do? I read that if a branch is flowering to cut off all flowers and the branch will then start to root? I did that, but nothing is happening. Do I need to buy a rooting compound? Or can I just put the branch in the ground and pray that it will start to root? Thanks for all your help. I am new at the green-thumbing.

    I have rooted plants but never a tree or shrub... but I would suppose it is the same. I just stuck it in a container of water with a little dirt and peebles mixed in it after a month or so I planted them. I have seen root start in stores for roses I suppose they have it for trees as well. Hoprfully someone with more help will answer you. Please don't plant it until you get an answer, it would be such a shame to loose them.

    Forsythia are very simple to root. Take the bottom 2 or 3 inches of blossoms off the cutting and place cutting in vase with water. You should see roots in a couple of weeks. Idon't know where you're living ,but the temp should be around 60 to 70 degrees.

    An even easier way to root Forsythia is to lay down a long branch and where it touches the ground, put a brick or something to hold it down. It will root there over the growing season. In Spring, cut off the part of the branch leading to the mother-plant, dig up your new and already-toughened-for-the-season plant and put it where you want it.
