Firstly, I appreciate your interest in providing others with help.

I have installed a bathroom with full tub, lavatory, and toilet in my basement. I also have a kitchen sink installed at a bar. One 4" line ties all fixtures together and dumps into a dedicated pit. All basement plumbing is vented through 1st floor to roof w/ 2" vent.

I have constructed the entire basement with the intention of installing a sewage pump in the pit to lift into my sewer main which is approximately 36" off the basement floor. My questions are this;

1) Is sewage pump adequate for my installation?
2) Should I entertain the idea of installing a grinder pump?
3) Will a grinder pump handle tampons, condoms, etc.
4) How will a sewage pump handle these items?
5) Finally, any recommendations on brand of pump for both sewage and grinder would be appreciated.

I have looked, with no luck, for a 115V grinder pump... as I would have to add a subpanel to install 230V pump. Most grinder pumps appear to be 2 HP, am I not looking in the right place.

Any other thoughts, comments, and/or concerns about my installation would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi Joat2:

1) YES... sewage ejector is perfect here
2) I am not familiar with grinder pumps
3) I doubt it
4) Sewage ejectors do not do well with tampons, condoms, etc. For that matter... either does the main sewer drain line.. ;)

5) Zoeller Pump Company ...manufacturer of submersible sump pumps for dewatering, effluent, sewage and grinder applications, home improvement products, and pump sizing software. (click on link) In my opinion, best on the market!

Review installation manuals at zoeller... they spell out installation perfectly with great pictures... let me know if you need more... Mark
