If the drum itself is empty, that indicates only one of two possibilities :

One : something slipped between the drum and the drum wall (like a metal wire from a bra)
Try removing the part. Start at the bottom of the machine by opening (and if necessary removing) the water pump. Rotate the drum and try to move the lose part to the mounting hole of the pump.
If that fails open the rubber collar near the window. This last action is rather difficult, and requires luck and skills!

Two : the main bearing of the drum has broken.
As repair involves opening of almost the entire machine, it is difficult and expensive to repair : it's often cheaper and therefore advised to replace the entire washing machine.

Do not work alone on the machine. Always have assistence available.
NEVER work on the machine unless the electric powercable is removed from it's socket and is visibly lying next to you!! Make sure : working on a washing machine involves water : lethal in combination with electricity!!
    Success!
    ;)
