Hi everybody!

We were just wondering if anybody could help us with a big problem we've been having. We've been living apart for some years now and we decided on getting married. We would like to stay back in Germany but it seems to be a huuuge problem! He's malaysian and I'm german.

- the first problem we're having is that they say that I've to be able to support him should he come to germany to live. But I don't have a job, I'm just finishing my abitur and will be applying for a university this year( I'm 20 years old).

- the second problem we're having is that, germany currently requires him to apply for a marriage visa. They say that if we get married on a tourist visa, then it would be harder for him to apply for a permanent residency. However, in order to apply for a marriage visa, all documents with the registra's office has to be handed in and I'VE TO SHOW PROOF OF SUFFICIENT SALARY! (they require about 5000 euros a month! That's crazy... )

- my fiancée does not yet have a job as he'll graduate from med school this summer, if all goes well (he's 24 years old). He'd have to learn german first and obtain a professional level knowledge of the german language and then sit for a german medical board exam or something...

We really don't know what to do. Both of us are students and waiting is not an option any longer after years of being this way, seeing each other the longest during summer holidays is really hard... I can't show any proof of earning, as I do not live with my parents and I receive money from the city every month.

We're really at wits end...

If we get married in denmark or on a tourist visa, is it possible for him to get a permanent residency in germany? Can a country prevent two people from different nationalities to get married just because they don't earn any money at the moment??

I hope somebody can give us some advice on what to do... everything just seems so impossible... at the moment..

Germany has certain restrictions about immigration. You have to follow the rules and don't try different channel like getting married in other country. That will mess things up.

Learning German is a must, not only for career purpose but this is one of the requirements of immigration.

It sounds like you have to build the foundation of your relationship one step at a time, it is doable but will take a while. In addition, you and your b/f have to make a decision about citizenship because both Germany and Malaysia do not recognize dual citizenship.
