    Does oil damage hair? *-
My daughter who is six has very dry wavy/curly thick hair even though I have very straight smooth hair. I heard that oil dries out hair even olive oil, is that true?
If yes how often is best to use oil on hair and how is it best to do it? I
Also heard that if your hair is curly and dry it is good to blow dry it straight once in awhile, that it strightens the hair eventually is that true? If yes, is a blow dryer better or flat iron?

    Thank you so much

Some tend to think that oil is not really good for the hair but I beg to differ.

Olive oil is actually good for the hair along with coconut oil. Studies have shown that coconut oil actually penetrates the hair to help make it stronger. And as it turns out, olive oil also has penetrating properties. Scientists at the Textile Research (J. Cosmet.Sci 52, 169-184, 2001)

But seeing as it's for your 6 year old daughter, coconut oil would probably be best as it's more light.
Apply a tiny amount to her when it's dry or wet.

And when you blowdry curly hair, it will go back to curly when you next shampoo the hair. As blowdrying and using flat irons is only a temporary method.

Yes, it's true, nightstars310. When you saturate your hair with oil, you may need to shampoo more than once to remove the oily residue, which can strip all the natural oils from your hair, making the hair drier. Oil treatments don't penetrate the hair shaft without excessive heat, and it doesn't have the ability to repair damaged hair as well. If your daughter's hair is dry, try using a protein conditioner. A protein conditioner can penetrate the hair shaft and restores moisture and protein to the hair. Protein conditioners or deep conditioners will help repair some damage and prevent more from occurring.

You can blow-dry your hair straight with a round brush, depending on the texture of your hair. However, this method of straightening will last until you shampoo your hair. Flat ironing is another temporary hair straightening method. Flat ironing will make your hair a lot smoother and straighter than a regular blow-dryer.

Hi, I have thick, wavy, sometimes oily hair and I'm having a hard time taking care of it. I've noticed a lot...
