Pregnant and working 12 hour days
I am 5 months pregnant and I am a manager at a restaurant. At my job managers serve tables and it is a small location and very fast paced. I do not really get breaks, sometimes working the entire 12 hours with no time to sit down. I am required to do more work than the other women I work with, but that is becoming increasingly hard. I am tired and know that the next day I will have to be back. Sometimes I only get 6 or 7 hours of sleep and at one time that was enough, but now I feel like I need at least 9. When I don't get enough sleep it is so hard to work and I am required to be uplifting, which I feel is harder than ever when I listen to people complain about breaks when I would love one myself. And I know that I am the first one there and the last one to leave. I have talked to one of the owners about my situation because I have not been to the doctor yet because my schedule is so crazy, but the farther along I get the harder it is to wait it out until he finds a replacement for me. What can I do? I feel sad and confused and need help.

Look up what your state laws are concerning break time and meal time.

There are also federal laws for if you are pregnant.

You need to take care of your baby.

I never went in until my 5th month but that was 20 yrs ago.
I am sure if they felt there was a problem due to not getting to the doctor they could take action against you.

There is the FMLA also after you have the baby. Your baby is more important than the job
I don't see why they can't at least hire somebody so that you could split your hours with them.

If you do not live in the USA it would be helpful to know what country you do live in
If in the states what state?

I live in the USA and I know there are laws against it, but it is such good money. My husband says we will make it, but I can't help but worry.

I am a nurse, I worked a lot in the beginning of my pregnancy too! I was working 12 hour days 5-6 days a week, and was on my feet for 9-10 of those hours. Make sure you take it easy, take care of yourself. I kept working long hours until I was put on bedrest for hypertension, at which point I cut back my hours once I was off bedrest. I am pretty sure if you work 8 hours you should get a half hour break. When I worked 12 hours I got one half hour, and 2 15 minute breaks, but I rarely had time to take them. Just talk to your doc, and take care of yourself and your baby. Good Luck!
