    Barking Black Lab
There are two Huskies that live about 2 hundred yards down the street. As soon as I start to pull out of the driveway my Black Lab starts barking and doesn't stop until we get past their home. What is the reason for this?Is it protection?Excitement or what? I've tried treats, letting him ride in front, yelling at him etc.but nothing works.I've made him stay home for a few days but it starts all over again when I give him another chance. Now I don't want to take him anywhere because of this. Also how do I get him to stop jumping all over us when we come home? He's 3 yrs old and still plays like a puppy. Any help will be appreciated.Thank You

Sounds like your dog is lonely and wants to play with other dogs. Any chance you can get a playmate for him?
Yelling at your dog does not work. It only know that you are mad. But it is not human so it does not understand why you are mad. Yes it does want to protect and it does want to please you and giving it treats to stop him from doing something will not work. Treats are for when he does something good like a trick or something. Your dog still will always have instincts to be a dog and dogs bark it is that simple. Labs love to play and exercise that will not change until the dog gets past 7 or 8. Your dog is only 21 in human yrs. Remember when you were 21? Good luck and have fun with your dog.

My lab gets excited when I come home too, I thought all dogs did that. I pet her and take her outside with her chuck-it, then she settles down. As for the other dogs, I think razor is on to something. Is she social with other dogs? Like other dogs?

We thought loneliness might be the problem so we adopted another pup from the shelter and they do play a lot.As the new pup(appr.6 mo.s old)is deaf , it creates a new problem as she likes to nip at the Lab during play and when she bites too hard she can't hear him when he yelps in pain. But anyway, now we have two dogs jumping all over us when we come home.We could try to have something to play with and as soon as we open the door get them outside to play.At least this might shorten the duration of the jumping. This is a little difficult in the winter when it's below freezing.(North Idaho)The Labs barking in the back of the SUV is the real problem as it startles me as I'm driving(even after all these times)because it echoes and seems twice as loud as it is.

I don't really know much about them but maybe a bark collar would help in the car. Google it and see what you think, there are a bunch of different ones out there.
