    Food.and leash about my morkie
Hi, I have a 5 month old morkie (yorkie/maltese mix) I have a few questions lol I was wondering I know that dogs can not have chocolate. But I was wondering if I did give him "people" food what can I give him and what can't I give him.

And also.. when I take my dog out for a walk he lets my put his leash on him and everything but when its on he just won't stop trying to bite/eat it lol... he goes nuts. And when we are actually walking he has the leash in his mouth the whole time I take it out and he just does it again.. and I don't want him to think he is incontrol.. how can I get him to stop.. and why does he do this?

    Thankss:)

Honestly, I wouldn't suggest feeding your dog much people food at all unless he is having some kind of problem with dog food and you talk to your vet about a natural diet, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

And before anyone comes here ranting about natural diets, I have pets on natural diets and it's not a problem, it's just not for everyone.

With the whole leash thing, I would suggest getting a muzzle for him during walks so he doesn't destroy the leash or continue this behavior. There could be any number of reasons for this behavior, but he is probably just doing it because he thinks it is fun. Put the muzzle on him and tell him no when he starts to chew. Hopefully eventually he will learn that he is not allowed to chew the leash.

Your dog shouldn't really have most people foods they can easily give them stomach problems. Also lots of sugar can cause huge problems so try not to give 'em people food...

FOOD TO STAY CLEAR OF AT ALL COST

1.) Chocolate (mainly dark chocolate)- Can cause their hearts to speed up, they can go into cardiac arrest. Also it causes them to become dehydrated

2.)Onions and Garlic- Mainly onions, or any thing like onions (with layers and stuff). Causes the dog fatal anemia (red blood cells burst while circulating. Take 2-3 days to kick in, also it doesn't have to be very much onion.

3.) Macademia Nuts- Causes muscle spasms, paralysis, and muscle weakness. It can take as few as 4 nuts (the inside) or as many as 40.

I honestly think a muzzle is cruel to use but I suggest using a harness. It controls most of their body so it would be difficult for your dog to bite it.

And I heard that your not suppose to give your dog grapes.

My puppy (Lab-mix, so she thinks EVERYTHING belongs in her mouth) tries the leash grabbing thing too. I try to keep the collar positioned high on the back of her neck when we start. There is no tension on the leash, but not a lot of slack flopping around either. I find that if I keep up a brisk pace and keep her focused on where she is going she doesn't have time to grab at the leash.
I also love Gentle Leader headcollars (fit more like a horse halter) for leash-biters, because you can close the dog's mouth if you need to, and the leash is attached beneath the chin.
