I used Caro syrup and a small bottle of prume juice by Gerber. Not together..

Blueberries and prunes by Gerber... They work the best!

Watch out for the leakage out of the diaper though :)

Your baby is 5 weeks old. I would not try using any of the methods mentioned above because baby's digestive system is still very fragile and baby food and certain juices can really disrupt the fragile balance at this stage in his/her life.

Are you breastfeeding? If not, does the formula contain iron?

Contact your pediatrician to find out if he/she recommends glycerine suppositories or if he/she would like to see baby in the office.

If the baby has had a delay in passing meconium (the very first green dark sticky stool) after birth i.e. more than 48 hours, or if baby has been having problems passing stools since the very first day, definitely needs to be assessed by pediatrician. If baby passes stool spontaneously without stimulation, not explosive stools, especially if on a baby formula, may need treatment with stool softener such as docusate (in liquid form). Unfortunately to my knowledge liquid form requires prescription while capsules are OTC. A little bit of pear juice (Gerber) also might do the trick, but wouldn't use purées at this age.
