Ceiling Fan w/ light blows a fuse after working for 1/2 hour
Hello, I had an electrician come over and hook up a celing fan with a light kit and twice after it was running for a half hour, it blew the fuse and the light kit smelled burned.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot, the voltage was registering fine. Thanks

How about you have the electrician come back. You did pay him to do this didn't you?
There is a short in the light kit. I bet it is a pinched wire that finally broke through the insulation.
Where? Who knows. Could be where it was assembled by the electrician, or where it was assembled at the factory.

2 likely spots of pinching would be at canopy, the other it light kit to fan attachment.

Hello Thanks, I did have an electrician come and paid him $240. It is a high ceiling, so we just took the light kit off and returned and got a new one, it happened again to the replacement.

Then the problem is in the fan itself or the connections at the ceiling.
There are only a few places it can be.

See if it happens when fan is on, or light is on. An amprobe would be helpful to see.
Another thought, If the fan has a pipe extension, their may be a splice in Pipe from ceiling to fan motor touching inside of pipe.

Thanks Strat, I went out and purchased a Casablanca fan with a 80" wire so it will not have to be spliced. The electrician is coming back no Tuesday and he is going to take down the entire fan and base and install a new fan and light without splicing. Also the old fan was a Harbor Breeze... not sure if they are known for problems. I appreciate the help.

They do have problems, but I have never had one "Bad Out of the Box", they developed problems later, This sounds like a wiring problem.

Harbor Breeze are known for problems, not as bad as Hamton Bay however. What model Casablanca did you get?
It is most likely an issue with the fan. A burning smell is most often a bad capacitor.
Does the fan keep working after you reset the circuit breaker?
