    What were we?
I'm a freshman in college and at the beginning of the year I was in a two year long relationship. This turned into a long distance relationship because my ex had chose to go to an out of state school.

During the first semester, the long distance thing was all right. We talked a lot over the phone, but she was really depressed because she was away from home and she "decided to be unhappy until [she] is back home." There was nothing I could do to cheer her up, but I kept trying and I did love her dearly.

At the same time, I had met an old acquaintance here at school. She was also in a 2 year long relationship at the time and her boyfriend is here at the university.

To cut to the chase, I eventually started liking her and she started to like me.
We eventually broke up with our respective partners and got together.
We fooled around for around a month or so but never became official.
I fell hard for this girl, but sadly the converse was not true.

Eventually she told be she didn't have feelings for me anymore and that we should move on.
    Now she's seeing someone else.

    My question is:
What would you label the relationship we had?

A short fling that fizzled out.
