Landlord is raising rent to new renter after we broke lease
    Hello,
My name is Shanna. I live in Indio California and I am currently in escrow to buy a home.
We have given our 30 days notice and realized that our lease states that we must pay rent until our house is rented again. Our landlord just informed me that he is going to raise the rent over $200 a month for any new renter. This does not seem fair. Is there any law that can prevent him from doing this? Any info would be helpful!
    Thanks~

If this is "fair market value" then no there is nothing to stop him,
** unless perhaps this is a rent control apartment, But between renters is normally where increases are made.
