I think the best answer that you will get to this question is just this: "When you are in love you will know."
And it's true. You will. If you have to ask strangers online if you are in love, you probably aren't. You could be eaily confused with "puppy love", obsession or just like.

I agree that it can be confused with puppy love, I've never been in love. Just puppy love.
And of course you don't realise this until you can separate yourself from it and look at the situation objectively.
I hope that when you are in love you will just know... how else would you know? No one can tell you if you are in love based on what you tell them.. you have to believe it yourself for it to be real

Agreed.
I think you will just know. You will have butterflies in your stomach. Chills up your spine when he touches you. Goosebumps. You'll think about him 24/7. Always want to be with him. IN his arms.
This can be true of any of the aforementioned types of love. But if it doesn't fade, and if you feel this for a long period. I think that might be a sign.

When I was in my teens - every time I secretly had a crush on a guy it felt like love, had all the symptoms but it was till much later that I realized what true love was.
How did I know ?- when I didn't have to question if I was... I just knew. :)

Butterflies and sweats and chills... that's not love, that's intense "like" coupled with some hormones, hehe.
LOVE is a commitment, it isn't a feeling. The feeling of love can happen at any time to anyone you're attracted to for any reason. That's your heart's natural call to the opposite sex. But "puppy love" is a pretty good term for that always since if you don't grow that into something meaningful... well, it's just random hormones, isn't it?
You'll know when it is love may be true, too. Depends on your maturity level. I'd say when you tested those feelings over time, found a LOT to base an ongoing relationship on other than your feelings, that is things that can hold you together during the hard times (and OOOOH they will be hard) and she/he is reciprocating all the way, yes, you do progress from butterflies to meaningfulness.
Now, if you reach that point in a relationship (and it takes some time, so relax) and you STILL get butterflies when you kiss them, ooh, baby. What a life!

You'll know when your in love, by what it empowers you to do. And keep doing, no matter what life throws at you. It starts with loving yourself.

I think it's a feeling, and an action, as it makes us do certain things, because of the feelings. I also think it grows, as we move through time, and when it doesn't we come here, and ask why. Sometimes it can't grow, when we don't get it back, after we give it. Sometimes we change our minds, and for whatever reason, we stop the love altogether, sometime our partner changes their mind, and stops the love from growing, and we come here, and ask why. So its feelings, and actions, but please don't ask me why. That I don't know.

This is CONTRADICTORY: LOVE is a commitment, it isn't a feeling. The feeling of love can happen
I honestly believe that love is a feeling. The relationship that you choose to engage in because of the love is the commitment.

The first sentence says that a person must make themselves happy before another.
The second sentence says basically I am intuned with myself emotionally and spiritually and if one does that then they will have a good life with prosperity, love, respect and beauty.

Hehe, you're all misquoting me. I didn't say love isn't a feeling, I said LOVE isn't a feeling. That's clearly not the same thing. :-)
Tal pinpointed what I was saying, love (small letters) is the mostly uncontrollable reaction we have to other people. It is a natural attraction and the basis for why we even bother going after relationships at all.
Now, after that hopefully comes LOVE, the commitment, the actions that are borne of the mind's acknowledgement of what the heart seeks.
love and LOVE serve two separate purposes. Together, they're pretty powerful. Alone, either one can lead to disaster.

I don't know, I don't really think Love is a feeling, but more a state of mind. I mean you can care about anyone, if some girl or guy compliments you and there is a bit of physical attraction then you can start caring for him... or in school having crushes or puppy love.
But true love in my humble opinion, is being able to see the other person for who they are. Good and bad. Being wise enough to comprehend how important you are to that person, them to you, and you to yourself. Not feeling held down or back, but lifted and encouraged even with no verbal encouragment from them.
True love, is knowing that your not perfect, they aren't either, and you don't mind that they fart when your asleep, or snore, or roll around a ton cause they can't get uncomfortable... or even the INFAMOUS bed cover hogs! *grumble grumble*
I saw a commercial once... not really a commercial don't know what it was... but it showed a newly wed couple laying in bed. The wife continually flinging her arm and hitting the guy, or snoring... so the guy finally (after getting hit several times) wises up, catches her arm and holds it (lovingly) and smiles. Awwww... then the end of the commercial, when he thinks he finally won. She farts. It was dedicated from a man to his wife, or what not.
True love is knowing that everything won't always be perfect, that it won't always be puppy dogs and rainbows. It's not all ups and no downs (what kind of roller coaster is that? )
True love is all about the low points, and the courage, the need, and the want to get to the top again.
Again just my opinion, my personal outlook on it. :)

Yes, love is a feeling and can be a state of mind also. When you think your in love, that, to me, is a state of mind.
So all the warming; the wanting; the need isn't a feeling? I have to disagree on that one.
