‘Have you been born again?’
I find that what people mean by “born again” is not always the same. Would you tell me what it means to you?

We are born again when we are saved. Jesus spoke with Nicodemus on being born again.
John 3:3-6 "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of Spirit is spirit."
Being born again is being born of the Spirit. We are born of the Spirit when we accept Jesus as our Savior... when we are saved.
1 John 5:1 "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him."
In John 3:16 we learn that God will give us everlating life if we believe He sent His Son to die for us. My fleshly birth through my mother gave me life, but through my salvation I was born again Spiritually... born of God... and have ETERNAL life.

I was born again in the 1980ies when I was 40. Being born again is an emotional conversion in which one has a spiritual rebirth into having a personal relationship with Jesus, God. (Goodbye doctrine, dogma, authoritarian religion, negative talk) I was rebaptized in a group ceremony. :) (Almost forgot to mention)
It is really quite a wonderful love experience only to be understood by others who are born again!
Now, it is 2008, and I am an atheist.

Yes,
3 years ago, I realized that I could not deny the fact that I am a sinner. I gave up trying to be "good" by self effort. Jesus came for siners. Matthew 9: 13. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. John 14: 6, Psalm 27:1-2. and there is no fear. 1 John 4: 16- 21.

I know that my answer will not be an accepted answer by many, but God never said that His word would be accepted by everyone. In fact He said that "not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
John 3:5
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the spirit.
Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
Acts 2:38
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of you sins."
I believe with all my heart that unless you have been baptized into Jesus Christ, you have not been born again. Christs' words plainly say to repent and be baptized, and to be born again through 'water and the Spirit.'

The death of my life and the gift of His life. Baptism is a symbolic death in the water. He is mine and I am His.

I'm somewhat shocked. Do you mind if I ask what happened?
