A coworker recently asked me if I am dating my boss! I tried to assure her no, no, NO :eek: but you know how it is, she may think I'm protesting too much. She said he pays more attention to me than anyone else in the office... whereas he's always having business conversations with my other coworkers, he also asks me about my weekend plans, pets, how my sports teams are doing, etc.. I'm 39 and seemingly single, and he's single and a few years older.

:confused: Maybe he IS interested in me? But, my question is, should I tell him that someone in our office has gotten the impression we're dating? It's not a real problem to me, I know it's not true, but I don't want people to get the impression he's one of those sleazy bosses. I don't mind him coming to hang out at my cubicle, but if it's to the detriment of his professional reputation, maybe I'd be doing him a favor by letting him know.

Tell the busybody to shove off and pay closer attention to the relationship you have with your boss. It is possible you are giving off flirtatious signals which are seen by others in the office, and possibly by him as well. Also pay more attention to his signals, and if you come to realize he's sending you signals, you might want to say something to him about how you feel his friendship is great, but you want to keep things professional.

Keep in mind it could be just this one person in the office who feels this way. If there is someone else in the office you are reasonably close to, you could always ask them if they think your relationship with your boss is inappropriate.

Yes, telling your boss will not change what they think and can serve no real purpose.
