Alternative for Surgery for my Dog with Inflammation of Neck
I have a 3 year old Belgian Shepard named Stella. She has a large inflammation in the right side of her neck which we have been treating with Baytril, a very strong antibiotic for over a month now. The drugs have helped reduce the size, but about halfway through, it seems to get bigger again. She has had a myriad of tests which show she does not have cancer, it is not a clogged salivary gland and it is not an enlarged lymph node. The x rays do not show any foreign body lodged in there, and she is eating and playing at a normal activity level. The vet seems to think surgery is the only alternative, but I don't think I want to or can afford to go down that road. Does anyone have any thoughts on what alternative treatments I might try? The consensus seems to be that she had an injury about a year ago and had a small stick jab her in her throat, and so when that healed, there was a small bit of the infection that remained and she grew scar tissue around it. PLEASE HELP!

This is only my thoughts, as I'm not a vet. My cat has had abscesses with infections and the vet lanced and drained them and then packed them with antibiotics and put a couple of stiches in to keep it closed. The vet also sent us home with a 10 day supply of antibiotic. Note each abscess was treated differently, but the one that I mentioned was causing him to have a fever... etc from the infection. I wonder if this could be an option for your dog.
