    Rhode Isalnd State Disability Tax
    My end of year paystub indicates that I paid $677.23 for the Rhode Island State Disability Insurance Tax. My W-2 from my employer does not reflect this amount. I worked for another company in January of 2007 and paid $84.67 which is reflected on that W-2 in box #14 (Other). My girlfriend's company also shows the amount she paid on her W-2 in box #14 (Other).

    I contacted my current company about this issue. They agreed that it should be on the W-2 and followed up with the State of RI to confirm. The state told them that I can file the amount of $677.23 on my state and federal tax return but it is not required to be on my W-2. This doesn't sound right to me. Please help me out.

    Such entries are NOT required to be on the W-2.

    This tax IS an itemized deduction on your tax return, which is why it IS put on the W-2, but it is NOT (IMHO) required.
