Hi there,

I have just moved into a new flat and at the time I didn't check for the shower (I know.. I'm a newbie in moving homes so forgot to do that!)

I live on the second floor of a converted hotel and the landlord said that because of the altitude the shower didn't have a very high pressure. So when I went for a shower I understood the real meaning of his words... the shower has really low pressure and if I take the shower head above shoulder height the water stops completely... so I basically need to sit down to wash my hair or have any sort of shower...

My landlord says there's nothing he can do about it, but there must be something! The shower is quite old and he says that doesn't have anything to do with it because of the altitude...

The water for the shower comes from a tank (in my airing cupboard) which feeds the whole bathroom but not kitchen. The pressure everyone in the bathroom is shocking and it also doesn't flush very well at all.

Anyone can please help and suggest something?

I would guess your LL is just jerking you around and doesn't want to fix the mixing valve. The water pressue at your "altitude" should be about the same as the lowlanders on the first floor. I think your mixing valve is plugged up but he should be fixing it for you. I do not normallly advise tenants on how to repairs fixture that don't belong to them, backfires would be your $$$$$ burden.

Hi Gnave... hey.. if you get to feeling that this is not right, you can always call the plumbing inspector of the town and ask them what they think... or call the board of health... or may have to move... sounds awful! Ballenger is right, too... do not attempt to fix this yourself... would surely backfire. Take the steps as described if persists and landlord will not help.

Are there any other tenants on same floor with you... or above you..? If so, as you get to know them... check their pressure/volume at shower.
