    Amend tax return
    Hello,

In both 2005 and 2006 I had about $10,000 in medical expenses. I haven't deducted those from my tax returns. I have no medical bills, but I do have copies of the monthly checks I used for my payments and the tax ID of the doctor to whom the checks were addressed. Can I amend my 2005 and 2006 returns?

    Thanks!

Yes, do so if these exmpeses are in fact deductible as itemized deductions.

You may not receive any benefit from the medical expenses because there are certain thresholds that you need to exceed before you get a benefit.

    Thanks you guys.

I have looked at my tax records: I did deduct the expenses in 2006, but I didn't in 2005 because I filed an 1040NR.

Given that I arrived in the US (F1) in August 2000 (for ~120 days) and stayed in the US for ~330 days/year subsequently (still on F1), can I amend my 2005 1040NR tax return, filing forms 1040X and 1040?

    Thanks again in advance!
