I think this depends on how low your iron is. If you're becoming ill because of it, it may be necessary for you to take iron supplements and you should check with your doctor to find out how much you need. If you're feeling fine then you might want to eat more iron rich foods while you're on your period to play it safe.

Well my iron is very very low and I use to take supplements but they were very harsh on my stomach.. it made me sick. I do eat iron food, as much as possible, as I don't eat red meat. I know that since I don't take the supplements that I need todo my part on getting as much iron intake as possible. But I was 2kws early in this period. Its been so heavy that I need to wear two pads. I can't even use tampons. I ve been feeling very light headed.. and been seeing "stars" . Ive been trying to keep active through out the day.. but my energy just isn't there.

Yeah, that's not sounding good. Check with your dr. and see if there's anything else you can do.

Never, ever think that something that is not normal does not require professional help. You state on your subject box that you are anemic, therefor the prolonged period can put you at risk for serious health matters. During pms a women can retain up to 5 pounds in water. We crave for pizza, ice cream, chocolates sweet and salty snacks. I always wondered why I just couldn't control my cravings during this time. I found out that it is a natural way of the body to get ready to what awaits. Since, we loose iron and minerals during our period, the water and stored carbs will help us during this time. Please get checked.

So that's why I'm craving peanut butter cups! Haha now that I think about it, that does make sense.
