    2006 taxes, questionable if filed.
ATE you seem to be quite the pro, maybe you can answer my boyfriends dilemma. In the process of a divorce, with two children. Ex spouse to be, does NOT work, children are in school and both under the age of 15. Boyfriend pays the mortgage as well as child support. The question is that he did not file his taxes last year because he had a huge return coming, ex spouse has a "PH D" as a Certified Public Accountant but hasn't done anything with the taxes(he had left it to her to file but when he was kicked out of the premises during that time). The issue is that boyfriend can't seem to get the required W-2's and forms that they did have, from her. Another question if she did filed them and took the return how can he find this out? What recourse does he have? This person has been known to sign his name to checks that are in his name, and other fraudulent acts, like not turning over the taxes that are due for property taxes. Who does he turn to, to get an answer. Does he request to have his attorney follow through in getting the courts to get the papers for him, and what if they have been destroyed(she has removed everything he owned in his residence without notifying him(trashed), during this tax season whom does he contact at the IRS, Does he contact the IRS, can he get through to a particular dept at the IRS... the questions go on...

IF there was a previous years tax return done jointly, he can get a copy of that from the IRS, if you live in an area with a IRS service center you can merely walk in and get it.

You also should be able to call the places of employment, and banks and rebuild your tax information.

Agreed; a phone call to the IRS will get him his tax information via the tax script.

Filed 1040 in 2005 instead of 1040NR: Which form should be filed for 2006? [ 7 Answers ]

Hi, I came to the US in Fall 04 and since then have been continuously on an F-1 student visa. I filed form 1040NR-EZ for 2004, but for 2005 I hired a CPA who (without informing me) filed a 1040 on my behalf. In there, he claimed an education credit (or something to that effect) which effectively...
