Ceiling Fan w/ remote, can I tape off dimmer and not use?
I am installing a new ceiling fan that has a remote controlled radio unit, into a junction box that has 3 wires - Black , White and RED. I am assuming the RED wire if for the dimmer switch that was already there for the old unit. The switch on the wall has a regular on/off with a very small dimmer built into the light control (up-down) movement.

Can I just tape off the RED dimmer and not use it at all? Or do I need to connect to a hot wire? The old ceiling fan had 3 wires, a blue one was connected to the red coming out of the ceiling.

    What is my best option?

I purchased this fan about 4 years ago. The remote actually has a "REVERSE" button inside the outer fan speed and off button. I see that the newer models do not have this REVERSE button. I am currently remodeling my home and am coming across a major problem that NO ONE seems to have an answer for. I have two ceiling fans that operate via remote control. The rest of the ones in my home are the popular "pull down" chains - and those work prefectly with the new fan/light dimmers...

The remote control will only take the lights from off to bright. It appears it goes through the cycle. I changed the battery and it did not correct it.
