Home's inside drainage system all linked?
Does your homes drainage system interconnect all together? I thought that my shower was leaking into my ceiling, so I stopped using it for two days to make sure. This morning I used my bathroom sink that is in the same bathroom the suspected shower that leaks. After using the sink, I went downstairs and found that the bucket I put under the leak had a small amount of water in it, which I assume was from the sink. Would my shower and sink be connected to the same drainage pipe? I am going to replace it myself, but just wanted to get some information about the typical home drainage system. I am almost certain it is cast iron pipe that might have some pitting. Thaks for any help, I would really appreciate it!

Yes, They are interconnected. The shower connects to the lavatory drain line and is wet vented by it. After you open up the ceiling and locate the leak come back and describe it. If it's a lead and oakum cast iron joint that's leaking all that it might need is to get recaulked. Let us know what you find. Regards. Tom

I have a one bath row home in Baltimore. Currently, my tub drains very poorly. The toilet appears to drain okay, so I'm thinking the blockage is in the shower drain somewhere. I will be adding a clothes washer and dish washer to the equation. I am replacing the tub with a corner shower unit and...
