Is my Puppy Poorly.
Hi Guys.. Can you please help.
I've had my little puppy "Alfie" for nearly a week now, and since I have had him his poop's have been runny with blood in.
The breeder said he is on these bite size biscults three times a day, which I have taken him off as I was worried they we're hard for his tummy to digest and we're hurting him when he poop.
My sister gave me a tin of Adult meat, I mashed it up in to little meals and his loves it.. though the runny poo's haven't stop nor as the blood, though it did seen less.
Should I not feed him adult tinned food, and does it seem serious? He is Thirteen weeks old Tomorrow (26/01/2008) He is a King Charles Cavalier.
He seems very lively and happy in his self.
Please spare me the time, I will be very grateful.

I recently bought a new puppy home and he had the same thing (although there was no blood in his poo). It turned out he had inflammed intestines so I would take him to see the vet.
Why did you switch his food? If he has come from a proper breeder, they know what to feed them. Adult food is not good for puppies as it can be too rich for them. Also, puppy food has vitamins and nutrients they need to grow healthy and strong bones and internal organs etc. If you do not want to feed him dry bitesize biscuits, then instead of adult meat, use puppy meat.
I would take him straight to the vet, or phone them as the blood is a slight worry. Was he pooing like this woth the breeder or just since you had him? Best to be over cautious than under. The vet might put him on a clinical diet, maybe some flaked chicken and rice if it's the food that is the problem.
Hope this helps you!

Thanks Louise.
I'm not sure what his poops we're like with the breeder, I only know he his been like this since we have had him a week tomorrow.
I thought the biscults maybe hard for his little tum.. I agree though, I will put him on puppy food straight away.
I have a vet appointment at 2.30pm today.
Thanks for you time mate.

One of my dogs would get the runs very easily as a pup. It is a good idea to have the vet check him out though. If there is nothing, he may just be sensitive. I found that dry food was better. Soft food gave her the runs more frequently than dry. Sort of like when we eat crackers for an upset stomach. Charcoal biscuits helped a lot too.. like doggy tums
I also found most of the "formula" foods for small breed, large breed made it worse. For her Nutro, Natural choice lamb for puppies was the best for her.
It may take some trial and error but do not do fast changes to food, thatt will irratate the stomach, even in a dog that is not sensitive. Add the new food gradually, mixed with the current food over about 1 week until the pup is on the new food then give it a couple week to evaluate how the pup is doing on it.
Good luck and congratualtion on your new addition to the family

My puppy had the same problem because of the food we were feeding him. I had him checked for worms and everything else, we couldn't figure out what was wrong. Turns out, my fiancée was sneaking him table food, lol. His little tummy just couldn't handle it. Once he got on a regular diet of puppy food, he got better. Glad to hear you have a vet appointment. Hope he is OK!

Hello,
I have 3 cats and two of them have been unwell since yesterday morning, they aren't feeding properly and are being very lethargic. They are both 4 years old. They had injections that indicated to may have side effects but this was a week ago could this still be related?
Thanks.
