I was told today by a government worker that the US government does not buy books or any other product which are sold by individuals. Is this true? I can't seem to find any information to verify it one way or another. If they do purchase from individuals, which branches do so?

What type of books? Almost all major purchases by the Government is done by bid. So if you wish to sell to them you have to get on a vender list and then bid on projects that would be covered by your product.

Even most state officers do this.

Individual offices can do small purchases normally on government credit cards form small business. So if you have a product that would be of interest to a specific person in a office, they could buy one from you though their purchasing or manager with purchase ability.

But if you are looking to sell a truck load of something, this will be done though the bid process.

They don't because there are laws against that practice; their laws in fact.
