Child support issues when no marriage
I have gotten my girlfriend pregnant-I have no problem paying child support but I do have a problem being in a relationship with this woman. I wanted to get out of the relationship, and now she is threatening me with taking me to court for abandonment. Does she have a case against me seeing as we are not married?

Zip, nada, nothing. Just a perennial pain in the fanny.

Your situation is exactly like our sons'. 15 years ago, he fathered our grandaughter.

The mother brought charges against him three times for support and withdrew the claim as soon as he told the Commonwealth that all he is asking for is a DNA test. Two times the mother declined.

In fact, our son moved to Florida and about a week or two later, mom and granddaughter moved in with my wife and I for about a year.

Two years later, the Commonwealth is back at the door saying this has to be resolved, I tell them fine, just get the DNA testing done. That's all he is requesting. The Mom is refusing the test. The Commonwealth said not any more and told her to surrender for the testing or forever forget re-opening the case.

Jim came up from Florida, took the test, mom and grandaughter took their part of the tests and about a month later it was revealed that Jim was 99.95% sure of being the father. Because he had agreed to modify the Declaration of Paternity on the infant's second birthday the Judge established a $4K past due payment and a current payment for the support of the child. To his credit, my son said that was fine with him he would pay it all. And he did. I thought my heart would pop right out into open court I was so proud of him.

My wife and I cared so little for the legality of the issues. The child owned me from the very first blink.

Remember, this is not about you, mom grandparents. Its solely about you and your child. Be there for her in every way you can. Don't waste a second of time. If it's a choice between Hooters with the guys or tea in the back yard, bring the coffee cake and be with your daughter!
