    Auto Hit and Run
My car was involved in a hit & run accident, however, the person or persons that hit my car did leave their phone number. I have made contact with the other driver, but now they are unwilling to cooperate and take responsibility. Should I file a police report? and since I do have a phone number will the police be able to locate the driver of the other vehicle?

I'm assuming your car was parked at the time so the other driver left their information. This is not considered a hit and run. I would call your insurance carrier immediately and explain the circumstances. They will advise you what to do. They will go after the other driver.

Gail you should definitely talk to the police. There is a AT&T web site called Any who that you can do a reverse look up as long as it isn't a cell phone, Do you have uninsured motorist insurance, if you do it will cover the damage after paying the deductable.

It's not hit and run if they leave identifying info -

When did this happen? The Police often won't take an accident report a while after it happened because you were attempting to deal with the other driver in the meantime but it's certainly worth a try.

They will provide you with the info on the other driver by tracking down the phone number but, depending on the dollar amount of damage, that's all they will do.

What does your auto insurance say? They often pay your collision damage and then pursue the other company (or you can pay and then will pursue on your behalf).

No collision insurance? You'll probably end up in Small Claims Court.

I don't think the police will do anything other than maybe taking an accident report. At this point no crime has been committed.
