Alternative to air-gap for a dishwasher drain
We are installing a new franite counter, with an undermount stainless steel sink.
Do I have to drill a hole in the granite for an air gap, if the dishwasher drains into the garbage disposal? Is there any alternative to an air gap?

Does anyone know if an airgap is required by the plumbing code in Norh Texas?

    I thank you in advance,
    G.

Yes there is. It's called a high loop and has been in use in my area for years in our new construction with no complaints or call backs. Take the washer discharge hose and loop it up nas high as it will go in the cabinet before connecting to the disposal. Secure the hose with a pipe strap or band iron at the top of the loop. That's all there is to it. If this job is permitted and will be inspected I would call your building department to see if a counter top air gap is mandated by local code. Good luck, Tom
