    Case problem... I think
    Hi there

I have just bought a new case to build a new PC. I have installed all the components correctly. When I switch on at the mains the PC starts by itself. There is also a message on the monitor saying there is no signal. I tried another graphics card just to make sure there wasn't a fault with the first but still the same message... no signal. I then removed everything and put it in a different case and it all works. I get a signal with both graphics cards. So the problem is with the new case I am guessing. But what sort of problem? Is it PSU related or bad wiring?

I would be gratful for your replies.

    Thanks

    Kier

It might be that you are grounding the motherboard to the case. Are you separating the case from the motherboard using the stand offs, washers & screws that should have be provided with the new case?

What kind of case do you have?

I had such problems when I got a Silver Gamer PRO a couple of years ago. Turns out the motherboard standoffs were a millimeter too short or too tall (I don't remember which - I ether stuck an extra washer under the standoffs, or forgot a necessary one); and that tiny discrepancy was causing the AGP slot of the graphics card not to seat properly. In summary: PCI cards probably won't make much of a difference, but AGP will definitely be VERY finicky (the fact that they have two rows of contacts, one on top of the other, makes it easy to screw up). I don't know about PCI Express; but if your card is an AGP (and maybe even PCI Express) check for the problem I mentioned.
