Can we file proerty lien & do we need an attorney?
My husband & I work for ourselves. We are subcontractors for a builder who has fallen on hard times and is not paying his bills. We have a couple of bills that are over 6mos. Old totaling nearly $10,000.00. I was recently informed that one of the homes that he has not paid us for work done yet is being taken by the bank. We installed the soft surface floor covering in the home. We do have a signed contract from the builder stating the work that was to be done & the price that was agreed upon for the work. Just haven't rec'd payment yet. What are my rights as a business owner that wants to collect what is owed to me? I have never ran into this situation in the 8yrs that we have been in business. Any help would be appreciated

Go to the local county clerk's office and ask what the procedure is for filing a mechanic's lien. Generally, with a m chanic's lien you just have to show the contract to get the lien placed.

I called the clerks office & they sent me the paperwork for a mechanics lien, but it is for a vehicle. When I called back they told that they only deal with car liens. Without success I have now contacted a lawyer thank you so mch for your response

I would have just put the address of the property where the car info would go.
