Ok this is a bit long winded so here goes:

On new years eve I was watching a DVD, it finnished and I went away. When I came back there was no signal on the monitor so I just switched it off.
The next day I go to power it up, I get a no signal from the monitor so I play about with the connections make sure they're on properly -nothing. Eventually I get a signal and I am able to log on but after a minute or so then it just goes to standby mode (the monitor not the PC). I try another graphics card just in case it was that but still the same.
So I try replacing the motherboard, processor and power supply, so that only the RAM and graphics card and hard disks are the same but the problem is still there. Even on the onboard graphics port doesn't work. So the process of elimination would suggest the RAM is faulty however it is only a few months old.

Anyone else had a problem like this or any suggestions.

Well your monitor might have blown a circuit and overheats quickly. I suggest trying another monitor. New years aye, you might have spilled something on it?
