    Noise from driveshaft.
My 94 Honda Accord is making a cracking noise whenever I drive off turning right or making a right turn while accelerating. There is no noise if I do not accelerate when turning right. Could anybody tell me if the source of the noise is from the left shaft or the right one? I thought it is from the left shaft as the differential would shift power to the left driveshaft when turning to the right, but I am not positive. Thank you for your help.

Since drivers make more right turns than left turns, the right constant velocity joint usually fails first. The angle of the half-shaft between the transmission and the right hub is also greater, which contributes to early failure. All of this is somewhat irrelevant, since it's more practical and customary to get all of the CV joints repacked or replaced at the same time.

Thank you very much, Txgreasemonkey, for your enlightening input. Your response is very helpful to me. One more question if I may: should I just replace cv joint on the right side or should I replace the entire driveshaft on the right? One garage suggested the former, another one recommended the latter. Is the latter trying to oversell? Neither has done any in-depth inspection. (I had a new driveshaft replaced on the left side about 8 months ago.) Thank again.

Thanks, V-star, for your advice. That was exactly what I have done a week ago. It turned out to be the left shaft, just as I suspected. The rubber boot was broken, so I had the whole left driveshaft replaced. Just as you said, it wasn't too bad. I bought the shaft from the Canadian tire for $89.00, which was on special, and I had it installed by a mechanic for 2 hours labour. It costed me about $280.00 tax included in total. Not too bad.
