    Closet bend required?
    I am putting in a new toilet on the 2nd floor and have a question about code...

    I am using 3"pvc coming up from the basement then 90 deg elbow (with 2" vent on top) going horizontal for about 14". I then have a standard 3" 90 degree elbow to a 3" closet flange. With the limited space (2x8 construction) this works best. I can also replace the surrounding sub-flooring then glue the flange afterwards easily using 3" flange.

    Is this OK for code? Does code require me to use a closet elbow (3" to 4" bend) then a 4" flange?

    You can use a regular 3" short sweep and then 3 flange but it sounds like you are out of distance on the vent

    A closet bend can be either a medium sweep 90 or a long sweep 90.

    A long sweep 90 is always preferable, if you can utilize it, but a medium sweep is also acceptable.
