    Placental Separation
After celebrating the New Year with my brothers and my boyfriend, I was in the Emergency Room because of sharp unbearable pain in my stomach at about 3 am New Years Day. After I was put in a room and laying on the bed, I started bleeding, A lot! Did the ultrasound, the baby was jumping around and PLAYING PATTYCAKE.lol.. literally, it looked like my baby was playing pattycake. They did the ultrasound for a good 30-45 minutes, so I got to see my baby go into the fetal position and go to sleep. The heartbeat was great and the baby I guess had no idea anything was going on. The ultrasound tech wasn't supposed to tell me anything, but she said, either the boy parts haven't come in yet or It's a GIRL!! I am a little over 10 weeks, so I am hoping she is right. Well, after 4 hours of pure torture, they tell me in other words that my body was trying to abort the baby. My placenta is detaching from my uteral wall. Well, I went in to the doctor, I am 99 lbs..,. I lost a pound since my last appointment. The baby is still okay and there is right now a 50/50 chance of me going full term. I got meds for pain and to help relax my uterus. I got two shots of pain meds and B-12. THAT HURT!! It is something called Placental Separation. I wonder how or why I had three healthy wonderful pregnancies and this one has to be so hard. I have another appointment on the 7th for a check up and the regular "fun" stuff. What else can I do but bed rest? I feel so helpless. :(

I'm sorry it took me so long to read your post...

Now, you are 10 weeks, there is no way to tell the sex of the baby as of yet. The earliest is 16 weeks and that is still not definite, that is why most doctors do not identify the sex of the baby until at least 20 weeks.

Placental separation puts you at high risk for carrying to full term, I am sure you know that by now. Why it happened? No one can be sure... It could be because this is the same place that the placenta attached in any one or more of your previous pregnancies, leaving this area a little more unstable for attachment.

It could be that you have something called placenta previa, which is when the placenta attaches lower and closer to your cervix.

You may want to check out this website as it is very detailed regarding placenta separation (abruption)

    MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Placenta abruptio
