    Sewage smell
    Hi,

My downstairs bathtub is emitting a horrible sewer smell and I've poured bleach and boiling hot water down the drains but it still smells. The smell is also coming out of the drain from my laundry area in the garage (I think the pipes are connected.) Do I need to have a plumber come out and snake the pipes or is there anything that I can do on my own? Any help will be appreciated.:)

    Thanks!

Is this area of your house new? It sounds like you don't have a trap on your tub and laundry tub.

Try dumping some water down the drain in the garage. The trap there might have dried up allowing the sewer gases to flow back through the piping into your house.

This isn't a new house and I'm not sure if it has a trap. I will pour hot water down the laundry area as well.

    Thanks for your responses.
