    How to reprint a book
Greetings! I have an old historical publication whereas only a few copies were ever printed. It's written in old style typewriter text. I have permission from the owner (the author is deceased) to get the book copied... like photocopied. How does someone accomplish this reasonably?

I give this information wondering who has the copyright. Did you look in the front pages of the book?

Provided you do have authority to copy the book, the easiest way would be to take it to a business like Office Depot or Staples. They will charge you per page but most will do it for you. After that, they can also have it bound as a book. They have different styles of binding, none terribly professional hard back type but soft bound or spiral bound.

The second option, if you have a home scanner on your computer, would be to scan each page, save as... name it to a file folder, save. Once you have done this, you can go to someplace online like lulu.com or blurb.com and they have a program wizard that allows you to input your pages in the order you choose, choose your cover type, what you want on it, etc. You might even look at your options on these sites before deciding how you want to proceed.

    Hope this helps a bit.

I am still a little concerned about the copyright just so you don't get into any trouble. Sometimes, a publisher holds the copyright rather than the author or author's family if the author sold it outright, copyright and all.

Thanks for your recommendations and concern. I will double check the publisher and actually contact them as well. I remember looking for the publisher information, but it was something weird and out of the norm. When I do reproduce the book, it is with intention solely for the benefit of our family's enjoyment. With that gives honor to the author who personally gave it to my senior friend while still with us. My friend is so delighted that this generation actually cares about the history of our community.
    Thanks kindly! Kathy
