    Ditra ceramic floor membrane
I recently was told about a product called Ditra that replaces the glued and screwed ceramic sub floors. I am very excited about the possibility of this since I have about 1000 square feet of tile floors to lay in my new house but I want to know if this is a good product and safe to use. We have 3/4 inch tongue and groove sub floors nailed to floor trusses. I am interested in an opinion on the Ditra product from someone in the installation business.

    Thanks

This type of floating membrane works best on concrete which can crack. If you glue your tile to concrete the tile cracks when the concrete cracks. It does work well on other sub floors but your single thickness 3/4" sub is about half as thick as I would recommend. In your case I would install 1/2" Hardibacker board made by the James Hardy Co, glued with modified thinset and screwed with Hardi screws 1 5/8".
