    As sson as you receive the W2 from your woekplace and any other sources of income. Begin by preparing your Federal form and when you receive the other papers, you can send it right out.

    That is NOT quite accurate.

    Since our beloved Congress sat on their hands and did NOTHING about the Alternative Minimum Tax mess until the last minute, the IRS is still re-programming their computers to adjust to the new laws passed in December.

    The IRS will not be ready to process 2007 tax returns until mid-January.

    If you have the forms, you can prepare them and mail the forms immediately.

    But they will NOT be processed until mid-January.

    The IRS has not yet announced WHEN they will begin accepting returns electronically.

    A limited number of taxpayers will be affected by ATM patch.
    "The Feb. 11 delay caused by the AMT patch will affect any taxpayer using any of these five forms:
    Form 8863, Education Credits,
    Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits;
    Form 1040A Schedule 2, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A Filers;
    Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit;
    Form 8859, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit.

    Taxpayer of does not file any of these forms will not be affected.

    MukatA's posting is accurate.

    However, the IRS STILL has not announced when they will begin accepting tax returns.

    My gut feeling says Monday, 14 January 2008. But it could be later.
