It seems fine for smaller applications, assuming you have gas heat.

I think it is overkill for the average home. While I was mulling over the best way to connect in my 6250 watt generator, I did some figuring. If I ran my furnace, refrigerator, well, and freezer all at once, it would take 4000 watts.

We haven't had a real power outage since I finished my installation last fall. It really looks to me like with a little care I could do just fine, as long as I didn't try to run the A/C and made limited use of the kitchen range.

I can't imagine such a system being worth while unless you have a large family and frequent, extended outages. Could you family get along without the 42'' TV, hair dryers, oven, shop tools, etc. for a day or 2? I would look at a much smaller system. Somebody posted a question recently on a 5K system in the garage with the exhaust pipe outside. I am set up to roll the generator outside and plug in the house. Details at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/electr...se-123290.html I haven't added it up, but even with cleaning up some existing problems, I can't have much over $600 in the system.
