I think My dog is pregnant!
OK so I think my dog might be pregnant a neighbors dog was in our yard I heaerd my dog crying when I went out the other dog ran away, I know I was stupid to put her out while in heat, but what I wanted to know if I could still possibly get her fixed before she gets to far along, this might sound cruel but I have 3 children and 1 on the way, its almost impossible for me to care for pups as well, if anyone knows I appericate it

If it's early enough in the pregnancy, a vet can do a spay/abortion. Generally they don't like to do it if the dog is in heat or pregnant, since it increases the blood flow to the uterus and thus increases the chances of problems, so you will be looking at paying more, but they will do it.

moonshadow, what you are proposing is not cruel at all. I am very glad you see the wisdom in doing this. Many people don't. If she is pregnant, the vet can do what you are suggesting if caught early enough, as Froggy has stated. Froggy is also right about vets not wanting to spay while a dog is in heat, but it is done. Get with your vet on this asap and find out when the best time would be for you to bring her in for a pregnancy check and take it from there.

If you can't find a vet to take care of the problem, it might be best if you found a new home for the dog where it would receive the care it and the puppies need. While you may fear you can't give the puppies the care they need, you may be vastly underestimating what it would take. I see questions here and other sites every day on accidental or deliberate breeding where people don't have a clue about breeding. I can't imagine these people have the knowledge and motivation to give the puppies the proper care they need and place them in a good home. I also seem any other questions here and elsewhere about problems I have never had with the well bred and cared for puppies I always have. A dog that has poor care before it is 12 weeks old, may never be as well adapted to its life as one that had better care. The longer the poor care continues, the more difficult it is to correct the problem.
I agree it won't be cruel if you can get her spayed now. I am appalled that in your position, you weren't responsible enough to have had her spayed. It was cruel not to have before. Were you getting her into the vet for her shots right alone? How old is she? Most states require a rabies shot by 6 months. Did the vet mention spaying her when you had her in for the rabies?
I hope you learn from this and teach your children that having animals carries the responsibility to give them the care they need.

You could wait until she goes out of heat,to reduce risk of complications with the bleeding. Then get her fixed whether she's pregnant or not.. just tell them you think she could be.My Vet has spayed dogs in various stages and no it's not wrong to abort those pups.it's better to do that than to let them be born and then not find a home and have them taking to the shelter to be possibly euthanized.I speak from experience here and I would much rather them not be born at all.

Yes, if she did get pregnant and is still early in the pregnancy, you can have her spayed and the litter aborted. As mentioned, it might cost a bit more but it would be well worth it if you can't take care of the litter.
Don't wait too long though. I adopted a dog from the shelter and soon after found out she was pregnant and due in a matter of weeks... she was so far along, the risk of having her spayed and possible complications, didn't sit well with me. The vet took an ultrasound and said she saw 2 puppies but there could be up to 4 max... I thought "ok I can deal with 3 or 4"... yeah, she had 9!!
I would get her spayed asap, pregnant or not.
