    Payroll deduction for discipline
I have a small business which I pay slightly better than minimum wage. All my employees (8) are part time.

My question: can I legally deduct pay (such as a quarter hour) from an employee if they are not doing their job completely or wearing their full uniform?

I realize there is a discipline procedure, but the employees know that due to the high costs of training and the limited availability of "good" minimum-wage help, that their chances of being terminated for not wearing a hat (for example) are slim.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No, the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) says that an employee must be paid for all time worked, so you'll have to find some other way to punish the employee.
