It shakes!
I currently drive a 1999 Ford Escort Zx2 and it has about 108,000 miles on it. Whenever I sit at a red light it shakes in drive, then I put it in neutral and it still shakes, but not as bad. I have no idea what could be causing the problem. Plus my A/C doesn't blow cold air and for some reason my engine heats up extremely bad when I'm sitting still for a long time, for instance in traffic. As soon as I get on the highway and start going fast my car cools down immediately. One last thing, my cooling fan does not spin, any ideas?

Just guessing:
The shaking may be from a worn, loose or lost engine mount.
The a/c, heating issues may be due to a loose or broken fan belt.
Again just a guess, seems like you should have a mechanic take a look.

Regarding the shaking, I have replaced all of the engine mounts and all the transmission mounts, but that didn't help one bit. It shakes worse when I put the A/C on.

The engine shake is likely due to a misfire. Putting the trans into neutral reduces the load so it seems to smooth out a little. I'll bet it seems even smoother on the highway. Any misfire will effect fuel economy, whether ignition problems (when was the last tune-up?) or fuel delivery problems (Professional injector cleaning?). Have this addressed.
And the cooling fans being inop needs fixed. They come on only when the engine temp requires them, but the fans should be on with the A/C on, drawing air across the condenser.
Find a qualified ASE certified shop to diag these concerns. Sooner, rather than later.
